VILLAGE KENAJ

Kenaj is one of the villages in the Këlcyrë area that most clearly reflects the profound changes experienced by rural settlements over the years. Located on the edge of the Municipality of Këlcyrë, the village preserves traces of a once more active community, while today only a few houses and a small number of residents remain.

The old houses, some of which are now abandoned or deteriorating, create a distinctive landscape that tells the story of migration and the gradual depopulation of mountain villages. At the same time, this atmosphere makes Kenaj an interesting place for visitors seeking to discover the more authentic and lesser-known side of rural Albania. Its location at the boundary of the Municipality of Këlcyrë, away from urbanized areas, offers tranquility, natural landscapes and the opportunity to explore a territory where nature is gradually reclaiming spaces that were once inhabited and cultivated. Kenaj can therefore be seen as a living testimony to the history of southern Albania’s rural villages and to the transformation they have undergone over the past decades.
