MENHIR – GOOD STONE

Humans have always been closely connected to nature. From this connection arose pagan cults, often referred to as nature cults. The Pelasgians are believed to have worshipped such pagan cults, and one of their symbols is this solitary stone standing upright in the landscape, known as the “Good Stone” or a Menhir (from the Celtic language: Menhir = “standing stone”).

It is believed that these isolated stones emerged from the earth or arrived from an unknown origin. Unlike ordinary rocks found in the area, they stand out for their unique appearance and significance.

This impressive stone, approximately 10 meters high and about 2 meters in diameter, is located near the village of Kala, opposite the village of Limar in Këlcyrë. It is a natural monument that, together with the Zagoria Valley, the Limar Bridge, the Illyrian Castle, and the villages of Kala and Limar, forms one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in southern Albania.
